Santorini International Airport Transfers

When you arrive at Santorini Thira Airport, please make sure to collect your entire luggage from the baggage claim area before proceeding to your choice of transfer.

Parking

There are some public parking lots located in the area around the airport, but none that is operated by the airport authorities. These parking lots are mostly free of charge, but it might not be easy to find a free parking space on these lots.

Car Rentals

There are several car rental companies with desks at Santorini Airport. They are located in the Arrivals, All Users area. It is usually recommended to rent your desired vehicle in advance, although walk-ups might be an option with some companies.

Buses

The public transport bus stop is right outside the airport’s terminal and it goes to Fira, with a couple of intermediate stops on the way, with the option to change for a bus to another place on the island at Fira main bus station. All buses start and/or end in Fira and there is no bus line connecting the whole length of the island.

The buses have no luggage limits or additional fees and the fare for a single journey ticket is around 2€ from the airport to Fira, or the other way around. The journey takes around 25 minutes depending on traffic, but if going to other places that require a change of buses the journey can take several hours from beginning to end.

Taxis

The official grey taxis are located at the taxi rank outside the terminal exit. There are a limited number of taxis on the island and the queue for a taxi can be long and take a long time. Make sure to wait in line as it is a first come, first serve system unless you have pre-ordered your taxi.

For parties larger than 4 passengers it is recommended to pre-book a van or two taxis will have to be used. For parties less than 4 passengers the taxi might have to be shared with other people simply because it is more effective due to the limited number of taxis.

The taxis all have taximeters that are based on distance and time, and there are additional fees that may be applied, such as Airport fee or excess luggage fee. Between midnight and 05.00 am the fare is doubled.

Shuttles

Many tour operators have transfers pre-organised for their customers upon arrival on the island, but in case you are not travelling with a tour operator or no transfer is organised there is the option of pre-booking a shuttle service for the transportation between the airport and the accommodation.

Many of the hotels on the island also offer to organise the airport shuttle service at an additional charge for their guests’ convenience.

Shuttle companies can also often be found in the arrivals area of the airport offering transfer to a certain hotel or area on the island to walk-up travelers.

Ferries

While ferry isn’t an option for transfer to or from the airport it is an option to transfer to or from other islands or even Athens. Santorini has direct ferry connections with 41 ports in the surrounding area and is a popular place to ferry hop to or from. The ferries depart and arrive at the main port Athinios, on the southwest side of the island, while the port in Fira is exclusively for cruise ships and the two smaller ports on the island are used solely by the local fishermen.

Don't forget - if you plan to travel during your stay, it might be more economical to rent a car at Santorini Airport.
